I recently went on a retreat myself for the first time in a while.<\/p>\n

This time, the venue was SHO FARM in Yokosuka.<\/p>\n

The retreat was hosted by NAMI Studio, a yoga studio with locations in Akasaka (Tokyo) and Kyoto\u2014what you\u2019d call a true \u201cyoga retreat.\u201d<\/p>\n

Their lessons are bilingual, offered in both Japanese and English, and more than half of the participants were international guests.<\/p>\n

Some were very experienced\u2014there were even people doing handstands during the warm-up! (laugh)<\/p>\n

Taking bilingual classes made me really wish I could speak English that well. It boosted my motivation a lot, especially since inquiries from overseas have been increasing lately. I really need to keep studying\u2026<\/p>\n

After the morning yoga session, we went on a farm tour at SHO FARM. Learning about their philosophy of growing vegetables without pesticides or chemical fertilizers, their thoughts on the environment, and their approach to low-impact living made me reflect deeply on the relationship between humans and nature.<\/p>\n

And I believe that this act of \u201cbeing made to reflect\u201d is actually something very important for us.<\/p>\n

Recently, I\u2019ve been receiving inquiries like, \u201cCan we do nature experiences in Chiba?\u201d
The reason, they say, is \u201cbecause there are no bears.\u201d<\/p>\n

So why do bears come down into villages in other regions?
Is it because there\u2019s no food in the mountains? Because mixed forests are disappearing? Because of the impact of artificial forests?<\/p>\n

There\u2019s no quick answer.
But the time spent thinking about these human\u2013nature relationships\u2014that itself is the essence of retreat.<\/p>\n

Even if we offered mountain programs in Chiba simply because there are no bears, I\u2019d still want to create moments where people can reflect on the forest.
Not to \u201crun away from bears,\u201d but to \u201cface the idea of bears\u201d\u2014not physically, but psychologically.<\/p>\n

After that, everyone worked together to prepare freshly harvested vegetable salad and a vegetable-packed paella!<\/p>\n

After yoga and the farm tour, we were all hungry! I tried my best to communicate in English too. Recently I\u2019ve been listening to the U.S. military radio station on my commute every day, and I\u2019ve also been studying grammar at home using AI. I\u2019m really putting in the effort!<\/p>\n

Helping with the harvest, making salad and paella together, and ending the day with a meditation program around a campfire.
Food, nature, environment, and English\u2014all kinds of themes overlapped into one experience.<\/p>\n

There was a lot to feel and notice, but instead of rushing to any conclusions, I prefer to \u201clet it rest\u201d inside myself. When I do that, something slowly begins to ferment. I think that\u2019s an important part of retreat.<\/p>\n

My retreats are usually \u201cresort-style\u201d\u2014at hot spring inns or glamping sites\u2014but this kind of \u201cfarm-based retreat,\u201d rooted in everyday living, feels essential for society as well.<\/p>\n

And just like that, my retreats continue to evolve.<\/p>\n
